The nature of on call has changed with the development of the new GP contract. We joined the WELLDOC GP co-operative in 1997 and this has been replaced by a PCT run service in 2004.

All the trainers take part in OOh work and this allows the registrar a range of experience and supervision. Occasional sessions may also be undertaken in Peterbrough Rivergate centre

We expect GP registrars to gain their experience by doing approximately 6 hours per month working alongside one of the partners. Shifts vary between 3 and 8 hours of duty based at Stamford Out of hours centre. Details of on-call arrangements will be discussed in advance.

The purpose of out of hours work is to prepare GP Registrars to be safe, competent and confident in managing out of hours and emergency situations. This should be achieved through a wide range of experience and associated teaching and support. We aim to continue to offer this aspect of GP training
